Integration With the Systems You Already Run
Your Authoritative Systems Stay Authoritative
Agencies shouldn’t have to overhaul all their systems at once. GovOwl reads and writes both ways, live, so a record stays current in both places and nobody enters it twice. If a system has an API, we connect to it. If it does not, we exchange files and map the fields.
Permits, Inspections, and Code Cases, Connected
GovOwl connects to the systems your agency already runs. Data moves both ways, so a permit, an inspection, or a code case carries the same information in GovOwl that it carries everywhere else, on the one record every department works from.
- Your GIS – Esri ArcGIS runs two-way from your own layers, so parcels, addresses, owners, and zoning tie to every record. Google Maps is integrated for agencies that don’t run GIS.
- Your citizen request system – 311 platforms like SeeClickFix and Salesforce among them, so a complaint opens as a case and closes when the officer closes it in the field
- Your mail server – an inspection report emailed from the field goes out through Microsoft Exchange or Apple Mail and lands in your own sent box
- Your payment processor – permit fees and code fines are paid online and post against the record
- Your state’s reporting system – feeds built to whatever format your state requires
- Your financial system – permit revenue, fees, and receipts move to the ledger your finance office reconciles
- Your document repository – permits, plans, notices, and inspection photos land where your records retention policy already points
- Your calendar – Microsoft Outlook or Google, so a contractor can book an open inspection slot without calling to ask for one
- Your notification service – an applicant hears that a permit is approved or an inspection is confirmed without anyone picking up the phone
- Your single sign-on – staff sign in with the credentials they already use
Twenty Years of Records
We frequently migrate from other permitting/licensing software vendors, SQL, Microsoft Access or even Excel. We just ask that your data be in good condition. Your old permitting system holds decades of history, and none of it gets left behind. GovOwl migrates it, and the record comes with it, so a property’s permits and violations from 1997 sit on the same parcel as the inspection you ran this morning. If a department needs the old system available while the transition runs, it can be, until it is not needed.
We’ll Connect to Any System that’s Built Right
Any professionally built system provides a way in, whether that is an API, a web service, or a scheduled file exchange. GovOwl uses whichever method your systems offer. A system we have never touched is still a system we can connect to, which is why we would rather ask what you run than hand you a list of what we’ve run. Integration is not a module you buy from us. It is the work of getting our systems to talk, and it’s part of our job.
